Comments:   iPLAYED WITH jAN AT PSV EINDHOVEN. HE WAS THE KINDEST, MOST SYMAPTHETIC PLAYER IN THE DRESSING ROOM. HE ONCE GAVE ME HIS ADDIDAS 'TOP CLUB' OF EUROPE MEDAL FOR 1978 BECAUSE THERE WERENT ENOUGH TO GO AROUND! HE WAS A JOKER. I ALWAYS REMEMBER COMNG BACK FROM SPAIN ON A PRE SEASON TOUR AND jAN HAD BOUGHT AN OUTSIZED SORT OF FRENCH BERET THAT HE INSISTED ON WEARING THE WHOLE TRIP HOME TO HOLLAND. I CAN SEE HIM NOW WALKING UP AND DOWN THE AIRCRAFT AISLE WITH THE BERET AT A JAUNTY ANGLE AND DOING A LITTLE JIG. HE WAS A SUPERSTAR BUT NORMAL. THAT COULDNT BE SAID FOR ALL PLAYERS IN THAT DRESSING ROOM. BTW - HE WAS A GREAT KEEPER. A GREAT KEEPER. i REMEMBER HIM ONCE SAVING A SHOT OF MINE IN TRAINING THAT WAS HEADED FOR THE TOP CORNER, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THIS 'HAND' REACHED OUT OF NOWHERE AND TIPPED IT ROUND THE POST.THE THRILL OF MAKING A KEEPER OF HIS CALIBRE MAKE THAT SORT OF SAVE WILL LIVE WITH ME FOREVER. I KNOW THAT HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL THOSE CLOSE TO HIM.FOR YOU, MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY. THE MAN IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, A LEGEND TO ME. GOODBYE 'BEVE'- YOU GREAT,GREAT MAN.

Comments:   I'm saddened to just hear of Jan's passing. I was honored to play goalkeeper for Jan for 5 years from age 13 through high school. He had a tremendous influence on my life and was the reason I fell in love with playing the position. He passed on his passion for the game to everyone he taught. His love for teaching young people the beautiful game made him so special to so many. He will truly be missed by anyone who knew him and my thoughts will continue to be with his family.

Comments:   I just hear of Jan's passing and my heart goes out to Toosje and the family. I feel terrible because he and I hadn't been in touch since I left SE Texas over a year ago. I first met Jan in 1997 when he and I were part of Greg Ryan's coaching staff at SMU. We kept in touch over the year and I will truly miss him. He was a great man and a good friend. I am thankful for the memories.

Comments:   Growing up in Ft. Lauderdale, we were truly blessed to be able to see such an icon in person as the "Flying Dutchman". He inspired my brother, who modeled his play after him. Now they are playing trading stories in heaven. My condolences to the Van Beveren family.

Comments:   Dear family and friends of Jan van Beveren, What a shock to read on the internet that my friend from youth passed away. My condoleances go out to Jan his wife and children. May God give you all the "kracht om dit verlies te dragen". My memories of Jan go back to our time as children, as we grew up together in Emmen in the Netherlands. Jan was already a sportsman then, like his father who competed as a runner in the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. When we were twelve years old I lost in the final from Jan, and that was a tennis match! Can you imagine that Jan told me afterwards that I should have won as I was the better player. What a sportsman already at that age, to say something like that!!! I still see Jan as that enthousiastic child, kind and full of life. May his soul rest in peace. Comments:   Dear all, I was very shocked to hear of the unexpected death of Jan van Beveren. I am a big fan of PSV Eindhoven, the soccerclub in the Netherlands he played for from 1970 until 1980. Jan was the best keeper I have ever seen. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and could you please bring it over to his family? Thank you very much. Kind regards, Met vriendelijke groeten, drs K.M.F. van der Molen RA

Comments:   To all our friends at the Spindletop Soccer Club, All of us in the VanBeveren/Gehan family were overwhelmed and deeply touched by the outpouring of appreciation, friendship, respect, and love for Jan that was expressed to us during the days after Jan passed away. The time we all spent in Beaumont will be remembered by us as horrible and beautiful at the same time. The balloon ceremony with all the players, young and older, girls and boys, and their parents, the memorial with the speeches, the flowers, the slide show and the large number of people attending the ceremony and telling us funny and serious stories about Jan helped us during this terrible time. There are a number of moments that I will never forget about those days. I will never forget the faces of the young people who were standing around me with tears in their eyes and telling me how much they will miss “Coach Jan”. The balloons floating away with the messages for Jan against a blue sky with a perfect sunset, the delicious dishes that suddenly appeared (I still don’t know where they all came from) and that we all enjoyed, the gift of the signed soccer ball presented to me by one of Jan’s team and the sympathy cards from the players, the speeches in which I was referred to as “Toto” (Jan’s name for me), the explanation of “The Rule”, and the mentioning of friendship based on the length of noses. But what we will remember most is the incredible support from the Spindletop Soccer Community which was an unexpected and bright light in the very dark days. We want to thank you for being such a great friend to Jan, for giving him the opportunity to be part of the club for several years and for being there for all of us during the days after Jan’s death. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Comments:   My condolences to the Van-Beveren family. As a kid in the 70's I remember watching Jan play for Sparta in Schiedam as I lived in Vlaardingen at the time. I even had the chance to meet him at that time before he moved to PSV. It was great to be able to meet him again 30 years later at a field in Lyndsay Lyons. Over the past few years Jan and I have crossed paths and he always had time to stop and talk. He was a wonderful asset to the game in the US, TX and in his playing days. He will be missed. Welterusten Jan. Tot ziens.

Comments:   Jan was a good friend, and he will be missed greatly. I am so blessed to have had known him and worked with him years ago at the SMU Women's Soccer Camps and coached against him in the various Dallas soccer leagues, not to mention that he helped me recruit an incoming student-athlete this upcoming fall who played for him at Spindletop Select (Emily Hughes). He enriched the lives of many people including myself, and I learned so much from him. His Dutch national team stories were great! Cruyff, had you had him in goal in 1974, you would have won the World Cup! "The Big Cat" was an all-time great! My respect for him is immense. He's a legend in The Netherlands and around the world. Thanks Jan! You are greatly missed but you touched so many lives that your influence will continue to touch peoples lives. Thanks again!

Comments:   I want to send my condoleances to the van Beveren family and friends as well as the members of the Spindletop Soccer Club. About seven years ago, Jan and I commented together on Dutch radio show NOS Langs de Lijn about the upcoming US-Holland game. Afterwards we stayed in touch. When I became CEO at Dutch professional club, SC Cambuur, he congratulated me. Jan - may you rest in peace. I will not forget you. Sincerely, Alex Pama

Comments:   If we are lucky, during our life time we may meet some one that truly lives their passion..that really does what they love every day, every moment. But to know some one and learn from some one, that truly lives their dream, is more than a blessing. Jan Van-Beveren may have been the best goalkeeper the world has seen, but i feel some of his greatest accomplishments, some of the most wonderful things he achieved; happened in a small town in Texas. Thank you Jan for touching and blessing our children's lives, bringing them joy and friendship; helping them each on their way--not just in soccer --but life. Thanks for touching all our lives. We miss you .

Comments:   First of all my condolances for his wife and family. Als to you all at Spindletop Select. I want you to know that he was indeed the best goalkeeper probably of the world. I still regret that he left to the USA but it was his choice and future, I respect that. The way he kept his goal free, the immens way to throw a ball, his athletic performance. Soccer has lost an icon. In Dutch for the family: Gecondoleerd met het verlies van uw warme man

Comments:   I was 4 years old when a sixteen year old guy played a little football with me. We lived in the same street in Emmen, a town in the north of my country. My father, a fan of the local football-club, told me later that i had played with Jan van Beveren, who had been the goalkeeper of the first team. When I was fourteen the world championship football in 1974 started without Jan. Later I knew the reason. For years I wanted to meet him and tell him that my youngest son is a goalkeeper. He knows who Jan van Beveren was and saw pictures of him. Jan, for me there was no better goalkeeper than you on this planet. Thank you for the wonderful moments. Rest in peace
